About Steve McQueen

Steve Rodney McQueen was born on the year 1969 in the city of London. He spent his early years in West London where he attended Drayton Manor High School.
McQueen is a well-known artist that has enjoyed plenty of success! He began his artistic career as a photographer and as a "minimalist" filmmaker before he decided to start filming full length motion pictures. He won the Turner Prize in 1999 for his short film titled, "Deadpan" which is the film that you will find displayed on the home page.
In his late twenties or early thirties he decided that he would pack his bags and relocate to the city of Amsterdam. He currently lives with his Dutch partner and their 10-year-old daughter.
In an interview given by Alastair Sooke, McQueen is asked, Why did you leave?" he responded by saying, "Why not? I mean, what, we can't leave the country now? I don't find London boring. Far from it. But Amsterdam seduced me. It is a human city, scale-wise. You can walk or cycle everywhere. I'm never on the Underground. It has a wonderful homey environment." You can really sense his love for Amsterdam! What is there not to like about Amsterdam?
